Surroundings of Bospark Markelo
Bospark Markelo is tucked away in the woods of Markelo, a village that is part of the municipality of Hof van Twente. In the immediate vicinity you will find an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails that take you past historic country estates, castles and picturesque villages.
Well worth a visit is the nature reserve De Borkeld. A rolling landscape with heather, peat and juniper berries. The village of Markelo is also recommended! In the center of Markelo you will find nice shops, museums and cozy terraces. Outside the village, young people can indulge in a mega-disco and a vast mountain bike area.

Twickel Castle
Saved and inhabited
Castle Twickel is located in the center of the estate. The origin of the house and its inhabitants dates back as far as 1347. In that year, Herman van Twickelo bought the 'House to Eysinc', which quickly got renamed to Twickel.
Twickel was never sold: it passed from father to son or daughter. The last owner, Marie, baroness of Heeckeren and Wassenaer, put the country estate into the hands of the Twickel Foundation in 1953. According to her wishes, the castle is still inhabited to this day.

Horse market Enter. Every year the yearly pony and horse market is held in the town center of Enter. On and around the town market the horses and ponies can be seen from an early hour. The smell of horse dropping is very strong then, and you can feel the horses snorting and stamping their hooves really well. The horse market in Enter is accompanied by a very large goods market/fair, an atmospheric flea market and many attractions for children.

The zomp is a 12 meters long oak flatboat with foresail and mainsail. A fantastic sailing boat, easy to steer and very suited for shallow water.
